The Cryptocurrency Open Patent Alliance (COPA), an encryption advocacy group, and Unified Patents, a patent-focused organization, have launched a campaign against blockchain and encryption technology "patent giants," Golden Finance reported. COPA stated in a blog post on October 1 that the partners have launched the 'BlockchainZone' initiative to combat patents held by non-practicing entities (NPEs), covering a range of technologies including non-fungible tokens (NFTs), wallets, and smart contracts. COPA said that the partnership aims to protect blockchain companies and developers from 'unreasonable and expensive' legal claims of patent trolls (NPEs), who use the high cost of court litigation to negotiate settlements.
