Four men broke into a home to rob $1.6 million worth of Crypto Assets, torturing the victims for over 13 hours.
On November 25, according to the New York Post, a Hong Kong man was sentenced to 7 years in prison in Canada for his involvement in an extremely brutal home invasion robbery: four attackers disguised as postal workers broke into a family home in British Columbia, subjecting a family of three to 13.5 hours of beatings, water torture, and sexual assault threats, ultimately stealing $1.6 million worth of Bitcoin. The court described this as a “meticulously planned long-term violent crime.” The attackers had surveilled the victims for several weeks, monitoring them and setting up cameras outside their home to target their encryption assets. During the torment, the robbers forced the couple to reveal their encryption account passwords: · The wife was subjected to water torture, and the husband was stripped and beaten · The robbers threatened to cut off the husband's genitals · They further threatened to harm their young daughter to psychologically coerce the parents. Ultimately, the robbers transferred $1.6 million worth of Bitcoin from the victims' accounts. The next morning, the victim's daughter managed to escape and call the police. The police subsequently found the parents injured and tied up, with the husband half-naked. Court documents show that the attackers had surveilled the family weeks in advance and installed cameras around the house to understand their encryption assets and daily routines. Before leaving, they also attempted to destroy evidence by soaking the household electronics in water mixed with bleach. This case was described by the court as an “extremely violent, extremely cruel, and meticulously planned encrypted robbery.”
