Bitget Donates 12M HKD to Support Victims of Hong Kong Tai Po Fire

Bitget has pledged 12 million Hong Kong dollars to support victims of the deadly Tai Po Hong Fuk Estate fire. The crypto exchange said the funds will help both injured residents and families who lost their homes in the disaster. The donation will go through three major local charities. Yan Chai Hospital will receive HKD 5 million. For emergency medical care, treatment costs and long term rehabilitation

The Salvation Army will receive HKD 3.5 million. To support temporary housing, daily supplies and financial aid. Po Leung Kuk will also receive HKD 3.5 million. For counseling, family services and community recovery programs. Bitget said every dollar will be used with full transparency. The company added that it stands with Hong Kong during this painful time.

A Disaster That Shook the City

The fire erupted on November 26 at Wang Fuk Court. It’s a major public housing complex in Hong Kong’s Tai Po district. Flames tore through the external scaffolding and safety netting. Including climbing several residential towers at an alarming speed. Within minutes, authorities raised the alert to the highest emergency level.

As of today officials say the fire is mostly under control. The search and rescue work is almost over. But the damage left behind is heartbreaking. At least 94 people have lost their lives and around 76 others were injured. Many are fighting serious burns and breathing problems from the smoke. The tragedy also took the life of a firefighter who was trying to save others. More than 900 residents were forced to flee their homes. With many families are now living in temporary shelters as officials inspect buildings for structural damage.

Investigation Points to Construction Materials

Police believe the fire spread rapidly because of bamboo scaffolding, green netting and foam insulation. It is used during exterior renovation work. These materials allegedly failed to meet fire safety standards. Authorities have now arrested two directors of a consultancy firm and three construction company executives on suspicion of manslaughter due to gross negligence. The Hong Kong government has also ordered city-wide inspections of all buildings currently under repair. Officials have called the disaster Hong Kong’s deadliest fire in nearly 80 years.

Crypto Industry Joins Relief Efforts

Bitget is not alone in offering help. Just one day earlier, HashKey Group donated 10 million HKD toward emergency relief and resettlement efforts. Together, both donations now form one of the largest private digital asset industry responses to the tragedy.

Bitget said its mission goes beyond business. The company emphasized that social responsibility matters most during moments like this. Its donation aims to bring fast medical support, safe shelter and emotional care to grieving families. As Hong Kong takes its first steps toward recovery, private companies, charities and volunteers continue to show up in force. Currently the priority is clear. Help people heal, rebuild lives and make sure a tragedy like this never happens again.
